What sparked your interest in cinema/photography: Skateboarding was my outlet back in the day and in a way began my love affair with operating a camera. In the beginning we used my dad's old Hi-8mm camera and we'd experiment with the focal lengths by duct taping on different lenses to the front of the camera. I quickly became addicted to shooting any flavor of video after being able to watch my work and see how people reacted to what was showing on screen.

Early Teachers or Mentors: Every set I've worked on since has given me the opportunity to pick the ear of an experienced Cinematographer/Grip/Gaffer . . . . I'm continually learning. I've worked with some great photographers and cinematographers throughout the years and each of them has taught something about working with light to make a beautiful image.

Most Satisfying Moment on a Project: When I was on location in Honduras shooting my second feature documentary "Another Testament" there was a moment when we had an actor portraying the Savior walking around amongst 50 or so children. I had set the shot on my 16ft crane thinking it would be an epic shot to come down of the hot setting sun to this warm little scene that Mark Mabry had set up against the Copan Ruins. As soon as the scene started I quickly realized that was the wrong shot. I immediately ripped the camera off the crane and went handheld and ended up capturing some of the best images of my career to date.

Recent Books, Films, or Artwork that has Inspired You: True Grit, The Kings Speech, and The Social Network have been some favorites as of late. Recently I've been digging through the work of photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson as I prep for a few upcoming documentaries I am working on for inspiration. The way he turns a candid photo into a piece of art is amazing.

Favorite Cinematographer: Harris Savides. Specifically his work in Finding Forrester. Lance Accord and Ty Evans are also some names I like to watch out for.

Upcoming Projects: An Arizona Manhunt (feature documentary), Dark Matter (feature film), Murder in the Dark (post production supervisor/feature film), Izmit 10 (feature documentary), and a dozen corporate and educational pieces I will be shooting in the next 12 months.
